In the making

This piece brings Al-Idrisi’s legendary 12th-century world map to the intimate scale of a cloisonné enamel dial, crafted entirely with fine silver wires. As part of the Mirror Collection, it celebrates the art of adaptation: transforming a historic cartographic masterpiece into a luminous, contemporary composition. The soft earth tones, deep blues, and sculpted coastlines highlight the depth of the original map while giving it a new poetic presence on the wrist. A quiet tribute to exploration, knowledge, and the enduring beauty of human curiosity.

collection

Al-Idrisi’s world map, created in 1154 for the Norman court in Sicily, is one of the most remarkable scientific achievements of the medieval world. Drawn with south at the top, it combines geographic knowledge from Arab scholars, Mediterranean sailors, African traders, and travelers across Asia. The result is a surprisingly detailed and coherent vision of the world as it was known in the 12th century, capturing both the curiosity and the rigorous method of one of history’s great geographers.
